In 1941, Arlington Civil Defense Agency was established in order to provide first rate public safety services in Arlington. The Civil Defense Agency has gone through many changes throughout the years, the name changed to Emergency Management in the early 1990’s, units were added to augment the force, auxiliary police and fire departments.
A communications section was also established. All of the various units have since folded and have been combined into what it is now known as Arlington Emergency Management Agency. In 2002 we took on an additional team, the Community Emergency Response Team,
Arlington Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), is an organization of men and women who are interested in serving their community and having fun while doing it. All members receive specialized training in areas not limited to CPR and Basic First Aid, First Responder, Defibrillation, Emergency Operations, Shelter Deployment, Search & Rescue, Communications and more by certified instructors to become effective responders to emergencies and disasters within the community.
CERT works in conjunction the Arlington Emergency Management Agency during times of disaster. This all-volunteer organization assists in many community events and serves as health, safety, medical services, and security for town events throughout the year.
